Big-time players make big-time plays. North Brunswick needed about 20 of these if they wanted a chance to win and they got it off the back of Niyell McCargo’s 40 point flurry. Her theatrics, clutch baskets, and lockdown defense helped the Raiders knock off a pesky Montgomery team 59-55. It’s worth mentioning that at halftime, Montgomery had built up a 36-22 lead before the Raiders closed out the game on a 38-18 run to win and advance to the 2nd round.

McCargo credited the win to a collective “adaptation to their defense by seeing the open lanes and taking them after the half.”

And it wouldn’t be an article of mine without some ridiculous stat so here it is. Before February 19th, 1 player in NBTHS Girls Basketball history had ever dropped 40 in a game. McCargo has done it twice in 9 days.

The Raiders will travel to Heightstown to take on the #1 seed on Wednesday.
