North Brunswick, the state’s No. 3 team, has long been known for its strength in the sprint relays, but the Raiders had yet to showcase their full potential this season due to lineup availability.

That changed Friday with the return of Jamell Wilmote.

Back at full strength, North Brunswick delivered a statement performance in the 4x100 relay, clocking a blistering 41.99 to break its own Central, Group 4 sectional record of 42.09, set just a year ago. The time also moved the Raiders to fifth on the state list this season.

Michael Perry led off the relay, bringing the speed of one of New Jersey’s top hurdlers—he ranks third in the state in the 110 hurdles at 14.05. Fellow standout hurdler Elvin Marte Feliz, the state’s No. 2 performer at 13.98, anchored the relay, showcasing the squad’s elite closing speed.

“I’s just a blessing for all of us”, said Feliz afterwards. “We came from not even having our main squad to begin with, and then now we’re all together, and we’re just getting the chemistry and rhythm back, so we’re coming for number one now.”

“I just feel like everything we put into work at practice all came together”, said Perry. “We’re ready for tomorrow and whatever comes after that.”

Junior Salvatore Fama-Linn, fresh off a runner-up finish at the GMC Championships with a 10.83, handled the second leg before handing off to Wilmote, the reigning indoor Meet of Champions winner in the 55-meter dash, making just his second appearance since competing at the Georgian Court University High School Challenge on April 11.

“It’s a blessing to be run with these guys because I know they’re some of the best in the state”, said Fama-Linn, speaking on the oppurtunity to run with three all-state athletes. “I just think that we’re the most competitive team in the state if not the best team in the state, and we’re just getting ready for groups and hopefully Meet of Champions.”

“It feels great to be back on this track team with my brothers”, said Wilmote. “We work on this, you know, our last meets, we haven’t been perfecting our baton passes, but today we did that, and this was a great day and we’re just getting ready for tomorrow”.

Wilmote capped his return by capturing the individual 100-meter title in 10.54, taking over second-best in the state and finishing just one-hundreth of a second shy of the sectional record of 10.53 set by the late Mario Heslop of Franklin.

The 41.99 relay performance far surpassed North Brunswick’s previous season best of 42.43 and underscored the Raiders’ status as a postseason threat now fully at full strength.
