North Brunswick established itself as one of the premier Group 4 programs during the 2025 indoor season, capturing both the Group 4 relay title and the Central, Group 4 championship—the first sectional title in program history.

The Raiders carried that momentum into the outdoor season a year ago, adding another sectional crown, and entered this spring ranked No. 3 in the state. They lived up to that billing, repeating as Central, Group 4 champions with a decisive Day 2 surge.

Locked in a tight battle with No. 8 Manalapan after the opening day, the battle continued on Day 2 as North Brunswick narrowly edged out the Braves 92-88.

“This is probably the most healthy, and together we’ve been,” said Head Coach Schwann Grimes. ”Unfortunately, we lost our pole vaulter to an appendectomy, so we’re missing him, but other guys stepped up and filled the gaps, it was a beautiful team victory.”

Day 1 was highlighted by a record-setting effort in the 4x100 relay, where Elvin Marte Feliz, Salvatore Fama-Linn, Jamell Wilmote and Michael Perry combined to run a meet-record 41.99.

Wilmote emerged as one of the meet’s top individual performers, capturing the 100-meter title in a state No. 2 time of 10.53 while also placing second in the 200 in 21.79.

Feliz contributed key points across both days, placing second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.34 before returning on Day 2 to win the 110-meter hurdles in 14.30.

“We still have some mechanical things to work on”, Grimes said. ”We can tighten up our quarter hurdles and tighten up some baton passing in the 4x100. Jamell missed some time, so we got to get his body back to full strenghth. That’s why I think the 200 didn’t go as well, and Crue [Brown] is a hell of a runner, so you can’t slip out here and thankfully we have two weeks before Groups to get mentally focused.”

In the field, Tyler O’Garro delivered a standout performance on Day 2, clearing 6-10 to win the high jump sectional title and move into the top spot in the state rankings. Teammate Aniyh Hall finished second at 6-6 and added a runner-up finish in the long jump with a leap of 22-1, further boosting the Raiders’ scoring effort.

”That was big”, said Grimes, speaking on the performances from O’Garro and Hall. ”The hardest part in coming back from an injury is trusting it, so he had to trust his leg. It’s been a slow roll coming back in there, so for Tyler coming through with the 6-10 and getting to get it done was fantastic.”

”Aniyh is just a scrapper“, added Grimes. ”He works hard and just always shows up, so for him to get those second-places was huge and he stepped up big time.

That’s the defining strength of this group, according to Grimes. While the players trade playful jabs like any team, their sense of camaraderie and brotherhood remains firmly intact and unlike any other.

“At the end of the day, they ride together like brothers, and when one’s fighting, they’re all fighting“, said Grimes. I told them, you know, each finger is individual, but you got to pull them together to make a fist, and this weekend they pulled together, so hopefully that fist follows to the Group 4 Championships.”
